Why do you love tomatoes from the “Peach” series?

Today there are tomato seeds on sale that easily tolerate drought and heat and are suitable for growing in Siberia. New varieties are becoming increasingly popular. Among the wide variety of such varieties, many gardeners prefer tomatoes from the Peach series.

The peel of its fruit is covered with a thin velvety layer, and the color of the vegetable can be red, yellow pink or orange.

Characteristics and description of the variety, yield indicators

The description of Peach tomato varieties mainly depends on the color of the fruit. But all varieties have common qualities:

  • tomatoes grow from 150 to 180 cm in height;
  • the culture is of an indeterminate type - the bushes will need to be shaped and pinched;
  • the first flower ovary appears above the 7-8 leaflet, after that at intervals of 1-2 leaflets;
  • 5-6 fruits are formed on each brush;
  • the stems are powerful, the leaves are dark green, similar to potato type;
  • the roots go deep underground and branch well;
  • the stalk of the bushes is strong, the tomatoes do not fall off;
  • The stem of this variety of tomatoes has a powerful structure that does not allow the fruits to fall off the bush;
  • mid-season variety;
  • the amount of harvest is average - the variety produces approximately 6 kg per 1 m2;
  • tomatoes are round in shape and have no ribbing;
  • the peel of different types is highly pubescent and has small fibers;
  • The type of variety is determined by the color of the tomato (red, gold and pink);
  • varieties form an ovary in any weather;
  • the weight of the fetus and its size are close to average (100-150 g);
  • the vegetable tastes sweet, with virtually no sourness;
  • Peach tomatoes are juicy and grainy;
  • the fruits are good for storage and can easily be transported;
  • the variety has strong immunity (tomatoes are not afraid of late blight, rot, powdery mildew, leaf and stem cancer);
  • due to the strength of the stalk, the variety is resistant to attack by mole crickets, mites, aphids and wireworms;
  • Peach dessert tomatoes are suitable even for children's and diet food;
  • The methods for preparing vegetables are varied: tomatoes are canned, juice is pressed from them, pizzas are baked, purees are prepared, salads and other dishes are prepared.

Some characteristics of tomatoes vary, but the above qualities are identical for all varieties. Among the seeds of the Peach variety, which are found on sale, in addition to varietal tomatoes, there are also hybrid subspecies, for example, the Pink Peach tomato F1.

On a note. If a package of tomato seeds is marked F1, this means that the variety is hybrid. There is nothing wrong with this, it’s just that the variety was bred by crossing two other varieties to obtain a subspecies with the best qualities.

Tomatoes of the Peach variety are medium-sized and are classified as medium-yielding. The maximum amount of vegetables per bush at harvest is 2.5-3 kg.

Pros and cons of the variety

Why do you love Peach tomatoes?Many experienced summer residents prefer the Peach variety for its excellent qualities.

The undeniable advantages of the variety for summer residents include:

  • unpretentious plant;
  • good resistance to temperature changes;
  • cultivation is possible in any region;
  • the plant is resistant to many diseases;
  • beautiful appearance of tomatoes - bright fruits will not go unnoticed and will decorate the garden;
  • excellent taste, which guests and children will undoubtedly like;
  • Fruit set occurs consistently under different conditions.

There are no obvious shortcomings in the Peach variety. Some gardeners are not satisfied with the amount of harvest, but this variety was not bred as a high-yielding one.

Advice. When growing Peach tomatoes in greenhouse conditions, the crop often grows larger than in open ground.

Features of different types of Peach

Peach tomatoes come in different varieties and shades: red, pink, gold or white.

The following three subspecies are the most popular among gardeners.

Red

The fruits of this variety are cherry-red in color and medium in size. Do not be alarmed by the sight of a whitish coating: velvety fluff is a feature of “peaches”. When grown in open ground, their maturation approaches 115 days. The variety is grown both in greenhouses and in open areas.

Orange

Orange peach is considered large-fruited - the fruits gain weight up to 170 g. They ripen very quickly, by 80 days. Resistant to diseases and low temperatures. Well kept.

This variety was developed by domestic breeders back in 2002; it is in demand in Russia, Belarus, Moldova and Ukraine.

Pink

Among all varieties, the Pink F1 variety is resistant to most diseases and is almost uninteresting to pests. This hybrid vegetable produces a large number of ripe fruits - gardeners harvest up to 18 tomatoes from one bunch, in contrast to conventional varieties, which produce 5-6 vegetables.

The fruits have a light cherry color with a white fluff coating.

Growing and care

Growing peach tomatoes is not at all difficult. This is done in the same way as with all types of tomatoes.

A novice gardener will need to perform the following algorithm of actions:

  1. Pre-soak the seeds in a weak solution potassium permanganate or any suitable disinfectant.
  2. Then we germinate the seeds in a damp cotton cloth or napkin on a saucer.
  3. When the seeds hatch, we sow them in the ground. For seedlings, some summer residents buy ready-made soil, but most gardeners make it themselves from turf soil, sand and humus. We bury the seeds in the ground no more than 1 cm.
  4. Carefully water the tomatoesso that water does not get on the leaves with the stem. Water for irrigation will need warm.
  5. When two true leaves grow, we pick the plant. This procedure stimulates the root system and helps it branch out.
  6. When 7-8 leaves grow, we transplant the bush to a permanent cultivation site in open ground or a greenhouse. The tomatoes will be approximately 50-60 days old.
  7. The planting scheme for the ordinary Peach tomato is 3-4 plants per 1 m2 for determinants. We plant the bushes in a checkerboard pattern with a distance of 40 cm between specimens. It is better to leave 70-80 cm between rows for convenient watering and caring for tomatoes.
  8. Before planting, we place mineral fertilizer, humus, compost or mullein in the holes. Sprinkle the fertilizer with soil and water it, then transfer the seedlings.
  9. If the soil has not yet warmed up (colder than 15 °C), we protect the plants with film. Then we gradually remove the film so that the tomatoes adapt to the outdoor environment.
  10. We water the tomatoes after 7 days, during which time they will get stronger.

Advice. 2 weeks before planting, sprinkle fertilizer and dig up the soil. And to get rid of pests and viruses, additionally water the soil with copper sulfate.

The best predecessors for planting the Peach variety are zucchini, cucumbers, carrots or legumes. It would be a bad idea to plant seedlings after potatoes or tomatoes.

To plant seedlings, choose a cloudy day, or start tomatoes in the evening so that the sun does not bake.

Peach tomatoes are unpretentious plants, but basic care procedures are still necessary. During the entire growing season it is necessary to:

  1. Water generously at the root of the plant, but do it not often and carefully so as not to wet the tomato leaves. Irrigation is carried out in the evening or in the morning, when the sun is not shining.
  2. It is mandatory to ventilate the greenhouse or greenhouse.
  3. Conduct feeding before fruit formation, do not fertilize after.
  4. Form the plants into 1 stem, then do not cut off the stepsons.
  5. If there are a small number of fruits, and if they are on one side of the bush, the plant is tied to a support or on a trellis. This procedure is performed rarely, as needed.
  6. For prevention, treat the bushes, despite the fact that the variety has good disease resistance. The procedure is carried out before the fruit ripens.
  7. Mulch the soil between plants to retain moisture in the soil longer.

The first fruits of different colors are harvested at the end of July. The crop will produce a harvest until mid-autumn, if climatic conditions permit.

On a note. If Peach tomatoes are grown in the south or in a greenhouse, the harvest is obtained twice a year.

Prevention of diseases and pests

To protect plants from diseases and pests, gardeners adhere to agrotechnical measures.

Tomato is a fairly resistant plant to diseases such as:

  • powdery mildew;
  • mosaic;
  • late blight;
  • rot;
  • brown spot.

The variety is not afraid of spider mole crickets, ticks or parasites such as aphids. The most common fungal disease in tomatoes is late blight. Appears in the form of brown spots.In hot weather, the leaves dry out, and in cold weather they begin to rot. Unripe fruits are more susceptible to disease.

For prevention purposes, use the drug “Fitosporin”. It is a biological pesticide that contains bacteria. Many gardeners use it to treat late blight and many other diseases. The drug kills all pathogenic bacteria with the help of beneficial microorganisms by penetrating plant tissue.

The drug is biologically safe. Tomatoes are eaten after thorough washing. It combines well with other chemical additives. Suitable for both prevention and treatment. To prepare the solution you will need to add 2 tsp to 10 liters of water. substances.

You will also need:

  • warm water no more than 35℃;
  • not a metal container;
  • Leave in the sun for a couple of hours to activate beneficial bacteria.

The crop is treated several times during the season with an interval of 10 days, if it rains, then immediately after it. In addition to “Fitosporin”, similar bacteriological compositions are used: “Planriz”, “Fitophtorin”, “Baikal-EM”, “Baktofit”. The composition and method of use of the drugs are approximately the same.

Reviews from gardeners

Reviews about Peach are mixed. There are both advantages and disadvantages in their cultivation:

Valeria, Krasnodar: “Many of my friends are disdainful of the variety because of its unusual shaggy appearance, but I personally like it. The peel is not hard, not bitter and does not prick. Tomatoes taste great, my family loves to eat them straight from the garden and without any preparation or additives. The pulp of tomatoes is sweet, somewhat reminiscent of the fruit of the same name. This is probably why the variety is called Peach. I grow tomatoes in a greenhouse. Our record height of the bush was about 170 cm.The harvest is quite enough. When picked, the tomatoes are all the same - similar in size and shape. I mainly grow the red and yellow subspecies of Peach, and next season I want to experiment with a hybrid.”

Konstantin, Rostov: “The first time I saw these tomatoes was in a neighbor’s garden bed. Because of the white coating, they seemed unattractive to me, but my wife insisted on trying them. We took several fruits from our neighbors, prepared a salad, we really liked the taste of the tomatoes, and we asked for the seeds. Only later did I find out that the white coating is not a disease or dust, but simply a feature of the variety, because it’s not for nothing that they call it Peach. What I liked about growing tomatoes is that they turned out to be the most resistant to damage by various parasites throughout the summer. In addition, bushes with fruits look quite unusual. I consider the disadvantage of tomatoes to be their relatively small yield. We got 6-8 fruits from each cluster, although our neighbor had much more. They probably did something wrong, I’ll try again.”

Maya, Volgograd: “My mother has been growing peaches for a long time. I didn’t want to try for a long time, but I finally decided. I chose the Blove Sutton subspecies for testing and was not mistaken: the bushes grew tall, as stated in the photo on the package with seeds. I was also pleasantly surprised by the amount of ovary. I reaped a bountiful harvest, also with large fruits. The attempt was a success, but I won’t keep them for permanent cultivation.”

Conclusion

The Peach tomato variety is an excellent option for beginning gardeners who are trying to grow their own vegetables. Also suitable for experienced people, those looking for something original. Multi-colored subspecies, with proper garter and care, look like an orchard.To begin with, to try it, about a dozen bushes are planted. The Peach tomato will certainly appeal to those who grow tomatoes for sale; the unusual appearance and taste will definitely interest buyers.
