What benefits will feeding currants with starch bring and how to do it correctly
Starch is a fairly popular fertilizer. It contains the trace element potassium. It is necessary for the growth and nutrition of currants. Potato starch – available fertilizer. It can be taken from potato peelings and other foods.
Fertilizer with potato starch
Potatoes and their peelings contain a large number of elements that vegetation needs. Thanks to this, you can use potatoes as organic fertilizer.
Starch does not pose any risk to vegetation. At the same time, its cost is insignificant. Thanks to this fertilizer, you can significantly increase productivity and increase the green mass of plants. Starch can protect against slugs, wireworms and the Colorado potato beetle.
What are the benefits of starch?
Potato starch known for various positive effects. Thanks to starch you can:
- enhance green growth in early spring;
- accelerate the ripening of berries;
- increase the level of fruit sweetness;
- prevent early shedding and wilting of berries.
These results are due to the presence of potassium in potatoes. This is one of the main microelements that almost all plants need.
Potassium is needed so that plants can carry out photosynthesis without difficulty.
Thanks to potassium, the strength of currant stems increases, which is especially important during strong winds and precipitation. With a sufficient amount of potassium, plant resistance to frost and drought improves.
Starch is best obtained from potato peelings on your own.
Preparation of potash fertilizer
Starch is usually extracted from peelings. They remain after cooking in almost any home. During the cold season, it is better to store potato peelings outside. There, under the influence of low temperatures, it is easier to preserve minerals. When it warms up, cleaning should be used as the process of rotting may begin.
Drying of cleaning materials is allowed. Thus, the fertilizer is preserved for a long time. But this process is labor-intensive. To dry the cleaning, a battery, electric dryer or oven is required. After drying, the peelings are ground on a medium grater.
Before using the raw material, it is placed in a large container and filled with boiling water. 10 liters of water are consumed per kilogram of raw materials.
Leave the mixture in this form for 3 days. It should be stirred periodically. Before use, the mixture is passed through a sieve. This is necessary to remove solid residues.
Eat simple recipe creating fertilizer. Should take 250 g starch potato and dilute it in 3 l. Everything is brought to a boil. The resulting mixture is additionally dissolved in 10 liters of clean water.
Fertilizing can be used for currant bushes when they grow green mass, bloom and bear fruit.
How to use potash fertilizer
Currants are fertilized before flowering. This accelerates the development of green mass and prevents shedding. Fertilizing can be used during the berry filling period.
Before feeding the bushes, they should be carefully water. Next you need to pour 2 or 3 liters fertilizers at the root of each bush.
Red Ribes
Red currants are fed and watered at the same time three times a year.The first time this is done during flowering, the second time when pouring or binding berries, the third time in September, so that the bushes winter better.
Currants will be resistant to dry periods and frost.
Black currant
The bushes are sensitive to frosts that occur in early spring. Gardeners advise applying starch fertilizer in March. Up to 5 liters of mixture can be applied under a large currant bush.
To get the maximum currant yield, the bushes can be fertilize with ash. It is also recommended to periodically treat plants against aphids.
Starch fertilizer for black and red currants is an excellent way to increase yield and improve the taste of berries.
